Tip Tuesday: Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla (BOURBON?!)

Here at The Cake Boutique we have Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla cake and buttercream on our menu. Many customers have asked the question...."Is there actually bourbon in there?!" The simple answer is no. But why do we call our vanilla cake and buttercream Madagascar Bourbon- well it is named after the vanilla extract we use. There are various brands and kinds of vanilla some of the most popular are Tahitian, Mexican or Madagascar. The extract is named after the vanilla bean that it is made from. Each have a distinctive shape and flavor. Our extract is made from a bean that is cultivated and cured on the Bourbon island of Madagascar. The vanilla has a sweet, creamy flavor and a velvety after-tone that is perfect for creating cakes, icings, even ice creams!
Natural vanilla extract is made from actual vanilla beans, where as, artificial is just that, artificial. A good natural vanilla is a great addition to box mixes or pancakes in a pinch. It can add a great flavor.
