I don't know about you, but I know that when I have a big event on the calendar my first step is hitting Pintrest. The process between pinning and the actual event is where a lot of people go astray. Being realistic is key- you need to be realistic about budget, your abilities, and time. Follow these steps to make your pintrest dreams a reality.
1. Set Guidelines: It is important to set a realistic budget for your event and your key components. If you are unsure what a realistic budget is first chose the key components of your event, is a really cool cake a priority, is fresh flowers for center pieces important to you etc. Once you have decided your must haves do your research- how much will a cake cost you? Contact a local bakery with your vision and the number of guests you are having to get a ball park price. Google supplies to get average costs. Stop at your local craft store to get an idea of the cost for the DIY things on your list.
2. Now you have a budget set and a list of priorities it is time to be realistic about your time and ability! Let's be real, if you haven't held a pastry bag before you might want to leave the cake, cupcakes, or cake pops up to the professionals....so you don't end up like these people...
Are you crafty? Do you have patience for tedious things? If your answers to these questions are no...you might want to the leave the DIY to a minimum. Are you working every day leading up to the party? Do you have a long list of other obligations? If so don't put too much on your plate- delegate or hire professionals. Nothing is worse than stressing your whole event.
3. Time to get down and dirty. Before dedicating to buying the supplies to make 100 favors- first give it a test. This way you will be able to schedule enough time and energy to completing the project. Also, anything you can prep ahead of time....do it!
4. Use pintrest as inspiration! Just because something is on pintrest doesn't mean it is the right or only way! You can adjust methods, supplies etc. to make things simpler, or more cost effective.
LASTLY...start off simple and build up to more difficult DIY. There is nothing worse than getting frustrated and swearing off future DIY from a bad experience! Happy Pinteresting!
