Quite often I will get questioned on prices of specialty cakes, or get a comparison comment to the local grocery store prices. I recently came across the following two photos that helps me answer these questions I have gotten. Specialty cakes, like what we make here at The Cake Boutique are made to order- which means the cake, and icing are made fresh for your particular order. In most grocery stores and superstore cakes are shipped in frozen and iced with premade icing from a bucket. There is a lot less time invested in a grocery store cake and often in the decorations as well.

It is pretty cool when The Cake Boutique gets shout outs on others blogs! Our delicious french macaroons were mentioned and photographed on Foxymess' blog just the other day. As she explains in her blog a french macaroon is a "french sweet meringue-based confection made with egg white, 10x sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder (or ground almond) and food colouring. The macaron is commonly filled with ganache, buttercream or jam sandwiched between two biscuits (cookies). The name is derived from the Italian word macarone, maccarone or maccherone."
