Tip Tuesday: Cake Serving Size

Quite often we have customers looking to order a sheet cake to serve just 25-50 people and they are shocked to hear our sheet cakes serve about 150! Every bakery is a little different when it comes to serving size. Some bakeries make single layer cakes, others two, three or four. Depending on the height and number of layers, each cake has a different serving size. Also, a square cake will typically serve a little more than a round as there are the corners of cake unlike in a round. Here at The Cake Boutique our cakes are mainly 3-4 layers of cake, therefore our sheet cake will serve much more than the sheet cake you typically see in grocery store bakeries. When you are ordering from a new bakery make sure to ask the serving size of their cakes because you could be ordering way to much or not enough and not even know it! Here is a chart for what 3 layer round cakes will generally serve:

Round Cake Servings
6"- 10-12 servings
8"- 15-20 servings
10"- 22-25 servings
12"- 50+ servings
14"- 70+ servings
