Cake Friday: Cheers.....Let's Eat Cake!

This week's cake is in honor of The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio being released on DVD. We wanted to create something with bold saturated colors and with an old Hollywood flare. After choosing the color palate of peacock blue, gold, black and white we went to work!

First the two cakes are covered in a
bold blue hue.

The cakes are stacked and doweled.

Black strips of fondant are cut to create
 a boarder on each tier.

The boarders are attached with a
touch of water.

Next edible gold paint is used to create
 a two tone boarder.

Gold swirls are hand crafted and placed
 in an interesting pattern.

Gold paint is again used to make the
swirls sparkle.

Luster Dust is brushed on the entire
cake to give it that Hollywood sheen.

Polka Dot circles are rolled with a
special tool to create ruffled edges.

The ruffled circles are placed in
semi circles to dry then painted gold.

Gold dragees are placed in the swirls
and along the boarder for extra glam.

No Gatsby cake is complete
without feathers!

We choose peacock feathers to
 complement our color scheme.

Lastly, gold dragees are
 added to the center.

Cheers...lets eat cake!!
